My Anxiety has decreased and the Trauma that sent me there in the first place has become a much lesser horror in my mind. This takes alot, but it is totally worth it. I have much more to go, but slowly things are getting better. My hope is that after this is done, I will be able to come off of some of the meds that help my Anxiety and be the better for it. I do want to put it out there though, that this treatment is great! You must also take care of your body. The doctor asked many questions, usually pertaining to the most stressful point of the Trauma. After accumulating many notes about my life and Traumatic events, we move on to the actual treatment. Side note: I have to say that the therapist I have is wonderful and I couldn't have asked for any better.&lt;br /&gt;The treatment is going well and I would suggest it to anyone suffering from &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word" style="background: #ff00ff;"&gt;PTSD&lt;/span&gt;(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Panic attacks, Anxiety, there are many facets of illness that this treatment can help with, if not potentially cure. &lt;br /&gt;I will keep you updated as I go through this treatment. I am hopeful that this will help ease my Anxiety, &lt;span style="background-color: magenta;"&gt;&lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word" style="background-attachment: scroll; background-image: none; background-position: 0% 0%; background-repeat: repeat;"&gt;PTSD&lt;/span&gt;,&lt;/span&gt; and maybe even get me off of some of the &lt;span class="goog-spellcheck-word" style="background: #ff00ff;"&gt;meds&lt;/span&gt; I am taking.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you need this treatment, seek a knowledgeable doctor and try it. Learned some of the ins and out of EMDR, this looks very promising for the treatment of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).  I have and appointment this week for some more intense interviewing, for the Doc  to learn more about my Trauma to best help him get an idea of what to focus on. Well, I'm here to tell you that Coffee is a major cause of Anxiety problems.  If you are prone to Anxiety/Panic Attacks in the first place, Coffee will only make them worse.  Being a stimulant, Coffee can and will make your Anxiety attack stronger, last longer and probably even start one in the first place.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I personally went for 8 years , having Panic Attacks almost daily.  Seeing the doctors and taking the meds, still the Anxiety was huge!  Going to my Doc one day with a Tim Horton's Coffee in hand, my Doc looked at me with huge eyes and gasped at the fact I was drinking coffee!  He then told me all the ins and outs of why Coffee is a contributor to Anxiety/Panic Attacks and I quit coffee that day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My attacks from then on were fewer and less severe, I still take meds, but low dosages. I want you to know that you can help yourself, you can overcome, you can feel better.  &lt;br /&gt;Firstly I would like to mention that I have had this affliction for over 12 years now and I am able to function on a daily basis.  I do still have anxiety/panic/depression, but with medication and some helpful tips I have been able to live a decent daily live where at first I was suffering.  I spent 2 years not able to leave my home.  I spent approximately 6 years only able to go certain places and with someone at my side.  I am now working and taking care of my family in a somewhat normal state.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  Now I would like you to know that I was able to do this by seeing the doctors, taking their advise and taking the medication prescribed to me.  It took a couple of years for the doctors and myself to find a medication that worked for me and that I could tollerate.  You too can do this.  I slowly taught myself to leave the house, a little bit at a time.  This is called (baby steps) , you don't have to take on too much at once.  I found that everyday if I did something new that I couldn't do before the panic and anxiety got better.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;  Exercise and eating right are the key.  Exercise does not have to be vigorous at first .  Just take a short walk.  Or if you are house bound, go out and walk around the yard or just simply get up off the couch , or out of your bed and move around.  Make a concious effor to try everyday, a little more , and more the next day.  Eating right means, no junk food, don't eat foods that are fatty, lots of fruits and veggies and leave the chips and snacks out of the picture. For people like us who's anxiety attacks do not pass quickly we have a whole gamut of symptoms that we go through such as:Your cardiovascular system leaps into action.Your heart beats hard and fast to pump blood 5X's the normal rateBlood rushes to the outer extremities in the muscles to enable sufficient strength for fight or flight.Blood is constricted in other less essential areas like the surface of your skin (you end up looking quite pale as a result).&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Blood vessels in the kidneys and digestive system also constrict and your mouth becomes dry as a result.To lighten the load your bladder or bowels may open up--hence irritable bowel and/or upset stomach, usually a feeling that you have to poo , and right now!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Sweat glands open up to cool your body down.Your respiratory system acts up,Your lungs and nostrils open up and your breath speeds up. I know that breathing techniques help, i've talked about them alot in my posts, but it is very important to learn how to relax. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt; I am going on a quest to find out what method works the best for me.  I will be researching and testing things such as Yoga, Tai-Chi, Meditation and many more. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt; I will keep you posted as I learn the different techniques and let you know how they work for me. You may want to stop and think for a minute, if your sleeping habits are a product of your stress or anxiety cycles.  I have noticed in myself, that when things are going well and stress is down, anxiety is lower, I tend to have an easy time getting to sleep and I get up more easily than ususal.  However if my stress is up, whether it is due to a depression cycle or even a happy event, I have a harder time getting to sleep, since my brain seems to run over the days events and even what I need to do the next day.  Now we can all atest to this in some form or another, however in the Anxiety/Panic prone people it can be extreme.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Suggestion, a form of meditation.....I know you are rolling your eyes right now because you've tried it and it didn't work for you....Well i'm here to tell you it does if you are consistant.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;My form, when trying to calm my mind in bed and get to sleep , is I picture a beautiful golden bright ball hovering around me foot area.  I can control the ball, and I concentrate on moving it.  I move it slowly around my feet, as if it were massaging them, from one foot to the next and work the ball up slowly all the way up my body.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;Now the first time I tried this, it was relaxing, kept my mind occupied but I had to do it 3 times before I finally fell asleep.  Now , after using this on a regular basis, I am asleep before the ball reaches my hip area. There are ways to overcome this way of thinking.  It takes work on your part, but the work is worth it. I would suggest seeing a counselor and asking for some sort of exposure therapy, as well as other therapy offered to get to the root of things.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The best way to get over Anxiety is to be anxious,....sounds weird, but it's true.  Most people just suffer through it, not realizing how easy it is to get through it.  I'm not saying that it will happen right away, it takes time.  Please try though, there is not reason to suffer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Breathing is the key.   Take in a deep breath for a count of 10, make sure you breathe properly.  If you are breathing properly, when you breath in your stomach should expand, when you let it out, it should deflate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So breathe in for a count of 10, slowly let it out and let your shoulders drop as you do so. You really need some form of meditation. This helps to reduce stress, and recharge yourself to lessen the anxiety in a day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would suggest taking a good Yoga or &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;Tai&lt;/span&gt; Chi class, but we all know , that they are either not available to us, or we just cannot afford the time or the money for a class.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This gets us back to meditation, really it just means taking some quiet time out for yourself to sit in a calm atmosphere and deep breathe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Find a quiet spot at home or at work, take about 10 min, 5 if you can't take more, and just sit, close your eyes, breathe in deeply and out forcefully and try to relax your muscles as you do this.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A good method it to picture your muscles relaxing in your head. Start at your toes, breathe in and as you breathe out, say relax ( or think it, either way works). Now that seems scary, but I think the panic attacks are scarier. &lt;br /&gt;Please don't suffer in silence, get out there and talk to people, talk online, ask others how they cope, because even with the medication, you still have to find a way to cope. &lt;br /&gt;In my older posts I have tips on how to cope and get through an attack. &lt;br /&gt;With practice they work very well. Am I Right? Yes, a possible Pandemic of Swine Flu is a very scary thing, but you don't have to panic, nor lock yourself into your home until it passes.&lt;br /&gt;There are precautions you can take, as with any flu , you need to wash your hands thoroughly and often. People who have heightened Anxiety/Panic Attacks , driving can be a nightmare!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If this sounds like you, then here are some helpful tips to get you through.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;While driving , when that overwhelming panic begins to start, make sure to breathe through it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I know I've said Breathe through it a million times in my posts, but it is a proven fact! If you breathe properly you absolutely cannot have a panic attack.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I suggest that if possible you pull to the side of the road, take those cleansing deep breaths and make sure you are calm before pulling out again. If you cannot get to the side of the road, use some self talk. Tell yourself everything is going to be &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;OK&lt;/span&gt;......say it &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;out loud&lt;/span&gt;.....it does help. Repeat it as many times as &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;necessary&lt;/span&gt;. Sing along to the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;radio&lt;/span&gt;, singing is a great way to breathe properly and calm the tension. Lastly, if you think it's going to be a drive that you just can't handle alone...take someone with you.....it always helps to have that person there to take over if need be. Sometimes that extra person will even keep and attack from coming on, but BEWARE, that extra person can become a crutch...that is to say...you will get used to it and never be able to drive alone. Seeing as most Anxiety Sufferers will not take the time to read a long winded Blog, I will keep them short and sweet from now on.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tip:  When you are avoiding as situation due to an anxiety attack or you are expecting to have one if you put yourself in that situation....my answer to that is simply don't!  Don't avoid the situation, face it head on.   If you have an anxiety attack, don't worry about it, find a place to sit and work through it.  Breath through it, self talk works as well. Sitting in my home, watching the world go by.  Seeing my friends and family live a normal life.  They go out to play , they go out to their friends, to the store, to the movies, while I sit , terrified that if I step out the door I will have an anxiety/panic attack!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Does this sound like you right now?   So many people suffer from &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;agoraphobia&lt;/span&gt;, and most start because of depression which causes anxiety and panic attacks. &lt;br /&gt;Usually it starts slowly, just afraid to go to the mall (too many people), then to the corner store, then driving, then, .....I could go on....It continues until you are housebound and don't have a clue how to fix yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was housebound for 2 years.  I hated every aspect of it, it became so I was even afraid to be home alone at all.  I thought I would be that way for the rest of my life.  I am here to tell you, my new friend, that you can get over it, you can get your life back!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My road to recovery started as simply as the panic did.  &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;Baby&lt;/span&gt; steps, .......I took a step out side one day....then the next I stayed out a little longer, then the next day I moved even further out.  This continued until I could get down my driveway......Slowly I tried new things, going for a short walk with my child, (panic, yes) but I got through it.  It took about 2 months to get to the point where I was no longer afraid to go outside.  It took even longer, but I now can go to the mall, drive, work, and do most things others can.  I still have panic attacks, but I know they cannot hurt me, so I breathe through them.  I still have bouts of anxiety when home alone, but they pass.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Listen my point is........If you want to change , you can.....if you want advice....seek it.....if you want your life back you can have it!!!!!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is much information out there now about what you have.....seek a doctor who knows.....find a support group , even online , who can help you talk about things.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I did........and so can you!!!!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Take a deep breath, and one step out the door! For people like us who's anxiety attacks do not pass quickly we have a whole gamut of symptoms that we go through such as:&lt;br /&gt;   Your cardiovascular system leaps into action.&lt;br /&gt;   Your heart beats hard and fast to pump blood 5X's the normal rate Blood rushes to the outer extremities in the muscles to enable sufficient strength for fight or flight.&lt;br /&gt;   Blood is constricted in other less essential areas like the surface of your skin (you end up looking quite pale as a result).&lt;br /&gt;   Blood vessels in the kidneys and digestive system also constrict and your mouth becomes dry as a result. To lighten the load your bladder or bowels may open up--hence irritable bowel and/or upset stomach, usually a feeling that you have to poo , and right now!&lt;br /&gt;  Sweat glands open up to cool your body down. Your respiratory system acts up, Your lungs and nostrils open up and your breath speeds up. This allows more air so more blood can be oxygenated, delivering more blood to the muscles. This also gives you the ability to scream loudly!&lt;br /&gt;  Also: Endorphins are released providing a natural pain reliever (sore joints won't limit your strength or speed). Our senses sharpen and our pupils dilate. We can even see better in the dark. Energy is metabolized. Fat is broken down from the cells and glucose from the liver creates a ready source of energy.&lt;br /&gt;  Your higher brain gets slowed, makes it hard to think Your thinking becomes intensely focused on identifying the source of danger even if it is not readily known. Any clue from past experiences is called up from the deep files in the far recesses of the brain. You are more reactive and spontaneous.&lt;br /&gt; This is not a time for reflection. Anxiety attack symptoms are provoked by our fight or flight response!&lt;br /&gt; In conclusion, for most of us it feels like a heart attack, or in extreme cases it we feel out of our body's, and a feeling of not being here happens. We can also think we are dying. You are not dying, you can work through these attacks and the more your practice the better and easier it gets. &lt;br /&gt;There are some other tips to getting through an anxiety attack, just look at my past blogs. Try to reduce stress, knock out caffeine, and relax as much as possible. Every step helps. We all wish we had more money to help make our stress go away. Well my friends, there are ways to help your stress levels without breaking your pocket book, or having to be wealthy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I will agree with all of you out there, that money does help. Yes, but more money only brings on different &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;stresses&lt;/span&gt;. Then you have to pay someone to help you reduce those &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;stresses&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;Getting to the point.....You can go see a masseuse...if you can't afford one, as I can't. Take a nice warm bath, or shower. Fill your bathroom with smells you enjoy, and or music you love. Take time for yourself, no matter how unimportant you may think it is. Everyone must take time for themselves as much as possible. You will find out how much less anxiety and panic you will have if you do this daily.  Don't forget to eat right and exercise as well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Take quiet time, to read a book, to just sit and relax. I must say though, watching a movie or T.V. doesn't count, because you are focused on something else, and those things you need to work out, are still at the back of your mind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try to make sure that the time is yours, and only yours. It doesn't have to be that long, 1/2 hour at the least. But try to do it often.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Most of us out there, live for others. Parents for their kids, others for their parents, some for others in the community who need help. People have used different methods for many years. Some breathe deeply into paper bags, some focus on something and try to calm their breathing down, and others have mantras (things they say over and over again) to help calm them. There are many others as well, but most deal with deep breathing of one sort or another. All of these methods could work, and probably do. It depends on the individual and what works best for you. I have found that many things happen to me, when having a panic attack and most of the time I can stop it before it gets to bad. Usually I feel like I can't breathe, start to get dizzy and then comes the feeling of disassociation(or not being here). It literally feels like you are dying. The trick, is to train yourself to use a method and practice it, then when the attack comes it will work as a second nature, and your attack will calm down faster and faster. I have used the mantra and the deep breathing, sometimes one works best and sometimes the other, it depends on the situation. The main thing is that it works. Try one, then practice it, and when you have an attack you may find that it works. Maybe not right away, but with some time, it will work quicker. Go out for a short walk. Go for a run if you are able. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;If you are not able, so some stretching within your home. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;If you are housebound(ie. agoraphobia-fear of open spaces) the best thing you can do for yourself is step out of the house. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;Baby steps, start with just going out the door, stand there for as long a you can, then do it again tomorrow, but tomorrow, take another step further. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;If you try this each day, soon, you'll be on your way to actually going out! &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:130%;"&gt;Bottom line, for all of us Anxiety/Panic sufferers..................exercise every day! Even the best of us, who are organized, methodical and just plain got it all together will be stressed by a move.&lt;br /&gt;I am speaking first hand, as I have recently moved. The biggest stress was finding a place to move to. Whether you are renting are looking for a new house to buy its a difficult time. It's hard to find a place that fits into your budget and does what every home needs to....fits your needs.&lt;br /&gt;Then comes the packing, the actual moving and the unpacking. This all takes time, and takes a toll on a persons stress level.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A few things to keep in mind when going through a move are :&lt;br /&gt;Remember, that your friends can be your biggest source of help at a time like this. Good friends will either help you pack, move , unpack or just be there for you when you need to relax, or talk.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, sit down, take a break , and do one thing at a time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Packing up one room then the next is a good way to keep from being overwhelmed. Once in a room work on that one until it is done, then move onto the next.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you have kids, depending on their age of course, get them to pack their own things, and it will give them a feeling of being involved and take some weight off of your shoulders. Deep Breathing. While sitting, lying down, or standing, close your &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;eyes&lt;/span&gt; and breathe in slowly. In through the nose and out through your mouth. Hold your breath for a count of 5-10 seconds. Take ten of these super-relaxers &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;anytime&lt;/span&gt; your feel tense.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Stretching. Practice simple stretches such as the "neck stretch": stretch your neck by gently rolling your head &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;in a&lt;/span&gt; a half-circle, starting at one side, then dropping your chin to your &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;chest&lt;/span&gt;, then do the other side.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;Exercise&lt;/span&gt;. All kinds of &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;physical&lt;/span&gt; activity---hiking, &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;running&lt;/span&gt;, bowling, walking etc-they all help.&lt;br /&gt;(if you can't leave the house) you can still exercise. If you have stairs, go up and down them a few times, try not to get out of breathe. Do jumping jacks, jog on the spot, sit on the floor and stretch your body out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Take a bath. Ask household members to allow you at least 30 min. of uninterrupted time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Get a massage. A massage is a wonderful way to get rid of physical tension. Professional masseuses generally take 30 min. to an hour , and will work on specific areas of tension, such as lower back or neck.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Eat well. Reduce caffeine and alcohol &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"&gt;intake&lt;/span&gt;. Find out if your diet is well balanced and take steps to eat healthily to help reduce stress.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the big ones is TALK, talk with a friend, family member or whom ever will listen to the feelings that you might be holding in. Crying is a great stress reliever, just don't let it take you down into a depression. I like to get up and do something fun after a good cry. Now I'm sure that you all know exactly what I am talking about, but what I'm here to tell you is that I am still here I am still kicking and I got through it.&lt;br /&gt;Stress can be a great contributor to anxiety/panic attacks and that is just what is happening to me.&lt;br /&gt;I had allot of things come my way all at once, and I had a hard time dealing with it all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I did do though, was go through some of the tips I have posted here already.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I concentrated on my deep breathing. Holding in for as long as possible without passing out, as when we shallow breathe we need more carbon dioxide, not more oxygen. Usually we get shaky, breathe shallowly, and for most people it passes quickly. For people like us who's anxiety attacks do not pass quickly we have a whole gamut of symptoms that we go through such as:&lt;br /&gt;Your cardiovascular system leaps into action.&lt;br /&gt;Your heart beats hard and fast to pump blood 5X's the normal rate&lt;br /&gt;Blood rushes to the outer extremities in the muscles to enable sufficient strength for fight or flight.&lt;br /&gt;Blood is constricted in other less essential areas like the surface of your skin (you end up looking quite pale as a result).&lt;br /&gt;Blood vessels in the kidneys and digestive system also constrict and your mouth becomes dry as a result.&lt;br /&gt;To lighten the load your bladder or bowels may open up--hence irritable bowel and/or upset stomach, usually a feeling that you have to poo , and right now!&lt;br /&gt;Sweat glands open up to cool your body down.&lt;br /&gt;Your respiratory system acts up,&lt;br /&gt;Your lungs and nostrils open up and your breath speeds up. This allows more air so more blood can be oxygenated, delivering more blood to the muscles. This also gives you the ability to scream loudly!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Also:&lt;br /&gt;Endorphins are released providing a natural pain reliever (sore joints won't limit your strength or speed).&lt;br /&gt;Our senses sharpen and our pupils dilate. We can even see better in the dark.&lt;br /&gt;Energy is metabolized. Fat is broken down from the cells and glucose from the liver creates a ready source of energy.&lt;br /&gt;Your higher brain gets slowed, makes it hard to think&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Your thinking becomes intensely focused on identifying the source of danger even if it is not readily known. Any clue from past experiences is called up from the deep files in the far recesses of the brain.&lt;br /&gt;You are more reactive and spontaneous. This is not a time for reflection.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anxiety attack symptoms are provoked by our fight or flight response!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In conclusion, for most of us it feels like a heart attack, or in extreme cases it we feel out of our body's, and a feeling of not being here happens. We can also think we are dying.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You are not dying, you can work through these attacks and the more your practice the better and easier it gets.&lt;br /&gt;There are some other tips to getting through an anxiety attack, just look at my past blogs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try to reduce stress, knock out caffeine, and relax as much as possible. You really need some form of meditation. This helps to reduce stress, and recharge yourself to lessen the anxiety in a day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I would suggest taking a good Yoga or &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;Tai&lt;/span&gt; Chi class, but we all know , that they are either not available to us, or we just cannot afford the time or the money for a class.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This gets us back to meditation, really it just means taking some quiet time out for yourself to sit in a calm atmosphere and deep breathe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Find a quiet spot at home or at work, take about 10 min, 5 if you can't take more, and just sit, close your eyes, breathe in deeply and out forcefully and try to relax your muscles as you do this.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A good method it to picture your muscles relaxing in your head. Start at your toes, breathe in and as you breathe out, say relax ( or think it, either way works). People have used different methods for many years. Some breathe deeply into paper bags, some focus on something and try to calm their breathing down, and others have mantras (things they say over and over again) to help calm them. There are many others &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;as well&lt;/span&gt;, but most deal with deep breathing of one sort or another.&lt;br /&gt;All of these methods could work, and probably do. It depends on the individual and what works best for you.&lt;br /&gt;I have found that many things happen to me, when having a panic attack and most of the time I can stop it before it gets to bad. Usually I feel like I can't breathe, start to get dizzy and then comes the feeling of disassociation(or not being here). It literally feels like you are dying.&lt;br /&gt;The trick, is to train yourself to use a method and practice it, then when the attack comes it will work as a second nature, and your attack will calm down faster and faster.&lt;br /&gt;I have used the mantra and the deep breathing, sometimes one works best and sometimes the other, it depends on the situation.&lt;br /&gt;The main thing is that it works.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try one, then practice it, and when you have an attack you may find that it works. I will say that the very first thing you should do if you suffer from any anxiety/panic attacks that are very strong, or bothersome to you..........QUIT CAFFEINE!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yeah, that sounds to any coffee drinkers out there like I just asked you to cut off your nose , but I will tell you that excess caffeine in the system is the first contributor to anxiety/panic attacks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Stress is a hard thing to manage and caffeine, though we think is helping us get through the day, is only adding to our stress. In small amounts its alright, but if you do suffer from many anxiety/panic attacks, its better that you don't drink any. Remember that this includes dark sodas &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"&gt;as well&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Next, if you are inactive, you should get some form of exercise everyday. Now I know the majority of us say things like "I walk all day at my job", "I'm always on my feet" etc. We all have reasons for not exercising, but this only adds to the problem.&lt;br /&gt;Walk briskly at least once a day, if you need to start off slow do so, but try to be active in some form or another. The more you know about what affects the illness can have on the body, the better you will start to realize what your body is telling you. For example, you are having an anxiety attack. You start to get dizzy, your breathing gets more rapid and soon you feel like you are going to pass out. If you already know that because of the anxiety attack you are not breathing properly that is hyperventilating, you will know what to do to stop it from happening.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you know that, when you have an anxiety/panic attack, that your body produces a large amount of adrenaline, which in turn causes all sorts of feelings in your body, including dizziness, hyperventilation and a feeling of not being here, then you will know what to do to calm it all down. I will get into techniques in my next blog, but I want you to research as much as you can about the affects of the anxiety/panic attack on the body if you can, if not, I will mention more soon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;First thing you have to do, especially if you are having one now , is recognize that you are having one, and know that it can't really hurt you.
